Family and friends will remember Kenny “The Birdman” Booker, 28, an East County icon, at a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Antioch Church Family, 55 E. 18th St.

For more than a decade, Booker walked the streets of Antioch and Pittsburg, giving acquaintances and strangers alike his signature one-finger salutation.

His father, Kenneth Booker Sr., said in an interview that his son was borderline bipolar and schizophrenic but smarter than people thought.

Family friend Genia Turner-Briggs posted that the services are open and the family had appreciated the donations and condolences.

“All those who want to come and celebrate the life of Kenny with his family are welcome,” she posted on the “Neighbors Informing Neighbors in the East Bay” Facebook page.

“Let’s show his family that the community did support and care about him in a respectful way,” her post read.
