While it may take weeks to officially pinpoint a cause of death for Bob Saget, law enforcement sees signs pointing to a sudden medical emergency, such as a heart attack or stroke, TMZ is reporting.
They’re making this assumption based on the way the “Full House” star’s body was found in his Florida hotel room, along with no evidence suggesting drug use or foul play, TMZ added.
Saget, 65, was found lying face up on his bed in his room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, police sources told TMZ. He had his left arm across his chest and his right arm lying beside him, with the hand on his chest suggesting the possibility of a heart attack.
Officially, Saget’s cause of death remains unknown, following the completion of an autopsy, Monday. Joshua Stephany, the chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola Counties, confirmed that there was no evidence of drug use or foul play.
“The cause and manner of death are pending further studies and investigation which may take up to 10-12 weeks to complete,” Stephany said in a statement to Yahoo Entertainment.
According to a report released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Saget was discovered unresponsive and “cold to the touch” by hotel security after his family was unable to reach him and requested a wellness check, Yahoo reported. The comedian was found deceased “in a supine position on his bed,” meaning he was lying with his face and torso facing up.
“I checked the immediate area for signs of foul play. It should be noted none were found. The room itself was orderly with items owned by Mr. Saget on the nightstand, television stand, closet and bathroom,” the report said, with the responding officer stating “no signs of trauma were seen.”
There were unspecified medications present, and it was noted that Saget’s medical history was unknown, Yahoo also reported.
Saget was staying at the Ritz-Carlton while on tour for his comedy show. The comedian had performed a two-hour standup set on Saturday night. He used his room key to enter his hotel room at 2:17 a.m. Sunday, the report also said.
Saget’s family confirmed his death Sunday evening, saying in a statement: “We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today. He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”
