More than 1,000 people gathered Sunday night at a Dublin park to honor the life of a school board member who died tragically last week.
Catherine Kuo’s husband, William; father, Rev. Frank Choe; and sister, Anita, were among the speakers at a candlelight vigil at Emerald Glen Park that brought students, school board members, friends and Kuo’s family. One person there, artist Lucas Coughlan, of Dublin, made a chalk drawing of Kuo on a cement walk at the park.
Kuo, 48, a Dublin Unified School District school board trustee since 2019, was helping distribute food boxes at Fallon Middle school when she was pinned between two vehicles. She died from her injuries.
She was volunteering as part of the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program as part of the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program when the tragedy happened. The program helps families in the district hard hit by the pandemic.
In a public statement leading up to the vigil, Kuo’s family called her a “real superhero.”
