Sunday’s 63rd Grammy Awards introduced a surprise change to the In Memoriam segment.
In years past, the “In Memoriam” segment would typically feature a performer singing over a montage of photos featuring musicians, producers and music industry people who’d died in the past year.
This year, a new change was introduced, which was multiple tributes from several artists.
The list of performers included Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak paying tribute to Little Richard, Lionel Richie singing “Lady” in honor of his friend Kenny Rogers, Brandi Carlile singing a cover of a John Prine song, “I Remember Everything” and ending with Brittany Howard on vocals and Coldplay’s Chris Martin playing a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
People took on social media to share their thoughts about the heartfelt performances.

The #GRAMMYs are only halfway done, but I’m calling it — a really entertaining show with a stunningly beautiful “In Memoriam” sequence. Awards shows aren’t easy even when there isn’t a pandemic… superbly done!
