A former football standout at San Jose High School and San Jose City College who had transferred to Kansas died in a car crash last week while he was driving back home for the holidays.

Bryant Rosas, a junior at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., was caught in a snowstorm when the collision occurred, according to school officials. He had just finished his first season as an offensive lineman for the Ravens.

A statement from Benedictine College did not specify the details of the crash. Television station KTVU reported that the crash happened in Colorado.

“We will miss your energetic personality, warm smile and locker room concerts,” read a tweet from the SJCC football account. “You were a great teammate, amazing friend and more importantly our brother.”

Benedictine officials said the college will hold a memorial for Rosas when school resumes from break in January. A GoFundMe published late last week already surpassed its $25,000 fundraising goal, raising more than $33,000 for funeral expenses.
