OAKLEY — A community still reeling from the disappearance and murder of a 24-year-old woman earlier this year will have an opportunity to grieve together at a candlelight vigil Friday night.

The vigil for Alexis Gabe will start at 7 p.m. at Civic Park in the 3221 Main Street. The gathering will be near the city’s Christmas tree.

“We are inviting the entire community to pray with us,” a message posted on a “Help Bring Alexis Gabe Home” social media page said. Gabe’s father, Gwyn Gabe, has overseen the page.

Gabe’s remains were discovered in a remote part of Amador County on Nov. 3. She had been missing since January, and authorities declared in June that they presumed she was dead.

On June 1, authorities shots and killed Gabe’s ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Marshall Curtis Jones III, in Washington state. A statement from the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force said Jones came at them with a knife as officers tried to arrest him.

Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard said authorities closed in on Jones as the case transitioned into a homicide investigation.

Authorities have said that Jones was the only suspect in Gabe’s disappearance. Contra Costa County prosecutors have declined to file accessory charges against Jones’ mother.

Gabe vanished on Jan. 26 after she visited Jones at his home in Antioch. The city had offered a reward for information leading to her return that grew to $100,000.
